Public Can Trade a New or Gently Used Musical Instrument For Free Tickets to Manilow’s September 7th Concert

[Rochester, NY—August 2, 2012] – Legendary singer-songwriter Barry Manilow hopes others will once again follow his philanthropic lead as he donates a Yamaha piano to launch a local instrument drive for the Rochester City Public Schools. Anyone who donates a new or gently used musical instrument to the Blue Cross Arena Box Office will receive 2 free tickets (valid for pre-selected seat locations) for Manilow’s September 7th concert in Rochester, NY.

“I’m thrilled to be able to help bring the gift of music to these kids,” states Manilow.

The Blue Cross Arena will be the base for the instrument drive in Rochester, from now through September 7th. The instrument drop off location is open between 11:00am-3:00pm Monday through Friday.

Dr. Bolgen Vargas, Superintendent of the RochesterCitySchool Districtis very appreciative as well as excited about Mr. Manilow’s commitment to our schools’ aspiring student musicians.  His commitment and vision becomes an integral part of a community partnership announced on July 24th with the City of Rochester; Hochstein School of Music & Dance; Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra; Rochester City School District,  University of Rochester Eastman School of Music; University of Rochester Eastman Community Music School, and the  Farash Corporation, called “RocMusic.” We believe that the gift of music engages our students and is an important factor in the student success equation. The Manilow Music Project (MMP) is part of The Manilow Fund for Health and Hope.  It was formed as a grass roots organization to assist local charities and programs.  Its primary focus is to provide musical instruments to high schools and middle schools and to provide music scholarships at universities throughout the US, Canada, and the UK.
